Sculpting Tree Spirits & Embracing Imagination
During this workshop, participants are invited to sculpt tree spirits using natural clay and materials found in the forest. Drawn from myth, literature, and your own sense of whimsy, you’ll work your hands to reveal hidden faces and forms in trees. It’s not just about clay—it’s about forging a personal connection to nature through creative exploration.
The walk to your workspace follows Baltimore Woods’ Valley Trail, about a 1-mile route of moderately difficult terrain (narrow or steep sections, roots, loose soil). Resting benches are available along the way.
This program is open to ages 5 and up, making it perfect for kids, families, and adults alike.
Admission is modest: $6 for Baltimore Woods members, $9 for the public. Advance registration is required, as spots are limited. Register for event at:

Why This Event Inspires
- Creative immersion in nature — Instead of viewing art through a screen or in a classroom, you get to literally shape the forest around you.
- Mindful, playful experience — Sculpting, clay, forest sounds and textures all combine to calm, stimulate, and spark imagination.
- Family-friendly connection — From children to grandparents, the event is designed for all ages to experience creativity together.
- Local nature & learning — It invites participants to explore the woods, understand the trail, and deepen appreciation for the local environment.

Tips for Participants
- Wear clothing and footwear suitable for hiking/hiking-like terrain—trail conditions can be uneven.
- Bring gloves or a towel for cleanup (clay can get messy).
- Arrive early to enjoy more time and settle in before the workshop starts.
- If walking is difficult, check accessibility with Baltimore Woods in advance.
